Duties:
- Complete tasks in Director’s Checklist and keep updated (adding additional information to ensure that camp runs smoothly)
- Support all staff (e.g. assistant director, Enrichment Leaders, Group Leaders, Support Staffs with leadership development, ensuring wellbeing etc)
- Carry out risk assessments where relevant (e.g. field trips, off-campus activities, general/ enrichment activities)
- Assist Support Staff during lunch with supervision of campers; maintain ratio
- Plan special events (e.g. end of camp appreciation meal for staff)
- Open/close at camp (locking doors, taking trash out, etc)
General Responsibilities:
- Oversee and carry out day-to-day operations at camp
- Be familiar with program structure and general guidelines
- Ensure safety of staff and campers
- Knowledge of where campers are
- Assessing safety of environments and setting appropriate boundaries
- Attending field trips/going off campus where needed
- Be aware of any allergies and take any necessary precautions
- Be familiar with injury protocols
- Communicate effectively with all parents and campers
- Inform parents of any field trips that are happening and anything that campers may need to bring
- Informing parents of injuries (minor and major)
- Responding promptly to any inquiries from parents
- Nurture a warm and collaborative environment amongst staff
- Delegate responsibilities and encourage staff commitment towards excellence
- Ensure staff (including self) are taking breaks
- Responding promptly to any inquiries from staff
- Ensuring all materials are acquired for camp
- Cultivate fun, supportive and nurturing environment
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for staff and campers
- Ensure trash is taken out daily (distribute responsibilities amongst staff)
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 25 years old
- Minimum 5 years working at a summer day camp or comparable leadership experience
- Good problem-solving, communication, time management and organisation skills
- Ability to build and maintain good relationships with parents, staff, and children
- Ability to identify needs on an individual and organisational level
- Excellent classroom/behaviour management skills
